CRAFTS FOR KIDS
From cooking to crafts, enjoy a little after school fun.  These activities begin @ 3:30 p.m.  A limited number of kids will be able to take most of these classes, so those interested should pick up a pass card after school at the front desk on the night of the activity.

AFTER SCHOOL FUN!
Hey kids, after a full day of sitting at your desks, come to the Rec for some active fun.  The activity for the month of September will be soccer skills and scrimmage time.  During October the 1st and 2nd graders will play kickball, while the 3rd through 6th graders will play flag football.

MOVIE DAY
Settle in with a 25 cent bag of popcorn and enjoy a G or PG rated movie in the conference room at the Rec.  All ages are invited to join the fun as long as they are willing to watch the movie quietly.  Bring $$ for popcorn.

KIDS A COOKIN’
Learn simple fun-filled recipes that you can have a “hand” in helping with.  Many of them are things you can do on your own at home.  Janae McNally from KSU Research and Extension will lead this class.

ARTISTS EXTRAORDINAIRE
Come to the Rec on Tuesday, October 6 and join the fun of creating a masterpiece on the parking lot east of the Rec Center.  The parking lot will be blocked off and you will be allowed to draw with chalk until your heart’s content!  Rain Cancels.

AFTER SCHOOL BOWLING
Bowling is a great sport, so join the fun as the Rec transports kids to South 75 Lanes on Tuesdays during November.  The bowling alley will have people on hand to help the kids learn to bowl.  Each participant will get a small drink, snack, shoes and their bowling each week.

OKINAWAN KARATE & TOMIKI-RYU AIDIDO
Learn traditional forms of katas, blocks, and kicks.  Learn and gain balance, self-discipline, confidence, and endurance.  You will learn equal left and right motor skills and much, much more.  Sensei Michael Cofer has had over 20 years of experience.  Interested persons can stop by and talk to the instructor before or after his classes.  For more information, call Michael at 364-2882 or

JUNIOR LADYCAT VOLLEYBALL
Start learning the basics of volleyball from some of the best.  Burlington High School Volleyball coach, Jenny Anderson, and her team will be “passing” it on to the future and teaching the basics of volleyball.  After four practice nights you will have a game night to “show off” your skills.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
This volleyball league is for 5th and 6th grade girls, designed to give them their first experience with organized volleyball.  Skill development and sportsmanship will be stressed, with competition being downplayed.  Games will be played once a week on Mondays at the Burlington Rec Center.  Registration ends September 2.  Volunteer coaches are needed.

Games begin Sept. 21 
League will run approx. 6 weeks
Fee:  $15 Indistrict; $20 Out of District; ($3 late fee if paid after Sept. 2)

POM PON
Join this performing group to work on rhythm, coordination, and dance moves.  Participants will perform several times throughout the year at various sporting events. Girls 5th grade or older may register. 
The fee covers classes from September through early May.

BEGINNING TWIRLING
Learn twirling fundamentals and a simple routine to perform at the half-time of a boys basketball game.  If you do not have a good baton, wait until after the first practice to purchase one.   This class is for those who have never twirled before and are 1st grade and older.  The fee covers class from Oct. through early May.  The winter performance will be February 19.

INTERMEDIATE TWIRLING

CHEERLEADING
Go Big Red!  Cheer the Wildcats on to victory and perform at the half-time of the varsity boys basketball game.  You will learn sideline chants, floor cheers, jumps and a short dance routine.  The fee covers instruction and a t-shirt.

SPANISH FOR KIDS
Learn to speak basic Spanish.  You will learn such things as how to count, parts of the body, greetings, parts of your home, etc.  Kids grades K-5 are encouraged to take this class.

BOY’S NIGHT OUT
This overnighter at the Rec Center is for boys in grades 1-6 and offers an opportunity for children to have fun in a supervised environment.  At the lock-in, participants are supervised at all times by Recreation staff.  Activities offered will include swimming, gym activities, late-night movie and night tag.  Pizza will be provided after the evening swim.  Bring pillow, sleeping bag, swim suit/towel.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
For those children or adults who do not learn well in a group setting, this is just for you.  Private lessons will be four, 30-minute sessions.  Classes will begin at 4 p.m. and will be scheduled on the half hour.

YOUTH BASKETBALL
Boys and girls, grades 3-6, are eligible to participate in Burlington’s competitive basketball league.  Practices will begin after teams are selected.  Games will be played on Saturdays, beginning January 3.  The season will last approximately 6 weeks.

Registration Deadline:  November 30
Fee:  $20 Indistrict; $25 Out of District
Late fee:  $3.00

INSTRUCTIONAL BASKETBALL
Kids in grades 1 and 2 can learn more about the game of basketball by participating in our annual instructional basketball clinic.  This clinic is conducted by Coach Dirk Over and the Burlington Wildcat varsity team on Wednesdays from January 6 – January 27.  The final day is scheduled as a game day.

BURLINGTON INVITATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Area 5th and 6th grade boys and girls teams will compete in this tournament.  The first eight teams that register will be taken in each group.  This year both the girls and boys will play on February 20 and 21.   Pool play will be used, with all teams being guaranteed six games.

Dates:  February 20 and February 21
Fee:  $150.00
Location:  Elementary, Middle School, High School, Rec Center

BURLINGTON WRESTLING CLUB
The Kid’s Club is entering its sixteenth year.  The Club is open to boys and girls ages 5 – 14 who want to develop their wrestling skills and attend area tournaments.  Wrestling is a great sport for young people to learn self-confidence, self-discipline, and self-defense.  Practices will be held twice a week and tournaments will be on weekends.  The fee covers four tournaments held during January, February and March.  A parent’s orientation meeting will be held the first night of practice in the High School Commons.  Volunteer coaches are needed—training will be provided.  If you are interested, please contact Doug VanderLinden at 364-2504.

RECREATIONAL WRESTLING
Kids interested in wrestling but not in competing in tournaments will get the opportunity to learn more about the sport by enrolling in this program.  Participants will learn basic wrestling holds and terminology.  The Burlington High School wrestling team, under the direction of Coach Doug VanderLinden, will run practices.  Practices will be held once per week for four weeks, followed by a local tournament.  Each participant will get a
Burlington wrestling t-shirt and will also earn a medal for being involved in the local tournament.
