HOLLAND/BELGIUM TRAVELOGUE
The Rec Commission invites you to be their special guests at a free travelogue highlighting the beautiful waterways of Holland and Belgium and featuring: windmills, dikes, canals, historic towns, and the beautiful tulips and other spring flowers of famous Keukenhof Gardens (over 7,000,000 tulips in bloom!) The special travel presentation will be October 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rec Center. Travel professional, Larry Kopke of Please Go Away Vacations, will also be present to answer questions about travel in general and about a special travel experience being offered through the Rec Commission in 2010—“A Springtime Tulips & River Cruise.” Travel prizes, reduced reservation deposits, and other bonuses will be available.

Step back in time and view one of your favorite classic films on the big screen. You will be able to sit back and enjoy watching a movie in the beautifully refurbished Granada Theatre. COSMOSPHERE AND THE UNDERGROUND
Go with us to Hutchinson where we will take an eighty-second trip down under (650 feet) at the Kansas Underground Salt Museum. Once underground you will ride a tram to view their many displays, each devoted to the history of salt. Next we will head across town to the Kansas Cosmosphere and take a journey through the history of space travel. You will witness the world’s most significant collection of U.S. and Russian space artifacts. You will also see an Imax show on their 44’ screen. The fee covers transportation, admission to the Salt Museum and Cosmosphere, Imax show, and lunch.

It is 1969 and while the rest of the world is dealing with Vietnam and Woodstock, the church basement ladies are coming to terms with pantsuits and guitars in church! For all you quilters, sewing enthusiasts or those who just want to get out of the house, join us for a fabric shopping frenzy. Hour long stops will be made at quilt shops in Baldwin, Overbrook, Topeka, Burlingame, and Emporia. These shops, along with Burlington’s Silver Threads and Golden Needles, are hosting this fun day out. There will be a lunch stop along the way. Lunch is on your own.

Start getting in the mood for the upcoming holidays by joining Burlington Recreation for a trip to Branson. A little bit of everything awaits you on this trip. Several shows will entertain you, starting with the Roy Rogers Museum and Show where Roy Jr. will entertain you with a variety of Roy and Dale classics. Next will be a delightful dinner and show with the Osmond’s. For those who want a touch of Broadway will be “Broadway!! Morning Show.” This show will feature Christmas classics along with festive costumes, high kick lines, and enchanting sets and scenery. Another great show will be at the Sight and Sound Theatre where you will be amazed at the visual and audio effects. The show presented will be the “Story of Jesus and the Messiah.” Before leaving Branson you will see the uplifting Brett Family Morning Show. This family will delight you with their precise harmonies and stunning solos. Between shows will be a little time for shopping, a dinner at McFarlain’s and a drive through the Branson Area Festival of Lights. On the way back to Burlington we will take a jaunt to Ozark, Missouri, where we will stop at The Feathered Nest, which is a fun home décor store. Not only will the store be decorated for Christmas, but also the owner’s home will be adorned from top to bottom and will be open for tours. The fee will cover two nights lodging at the Foxborough Inn, two continental breakfasts, two dinners, five shows, Branson Area Festival of Lights Tour, shopping, home tour at Ozark, and transportation.
