Take a walk on the wild side and enjoy a family day in the great outdoors on September 12. The day will begin with a fishing tournament at New Strawn Lake, followed by a free lunch at Riverside West shelter house #6. The afternoon will include canoeing, a visit with Smokey the Bear, lazer shoot, pellet shoot, archery, dunk tank, rope bridge, moonwalk and slide, firefighter competition, Birds of Prey, Magic by Pete, craft activity, paintball trail shoot, boat rides on the river, trap shooting, music, hayrides, free BBQ supper and dessert cook-off, movie and popcorn. On Sunday morning there will be a free breakfast and a youth church service. Camping on Friday and Saturday is free. Many local and national groups work together to make this event possible. 2nd BI-ANNUAL GARAGE SALE ‘GYM’BOREE
Just in time for the holidays is the bi-annual Garage Sale ‘Gym’boree. Whether you are looking for great gently used winter clothes or toys or maybe trying to make a little cash before the holidays, this event is for you. Clean out your closets and set up a booth in the warmth of the Rec Center gym. The fee to participate is $5, which helps cover the cost of advertisement. Each 8 X 12’ booth space will be given one 8’ table to use.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FESTIVAL
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Christmas seems to come faster every year and this year will be no exception. Come to the 30th Christmas Craft Festival to shop for gifts and decorating items. A large variety of homemade arts and crafts will fill the gym, commons, and hallways of the Burlington High School. Several area businesses will hold their open houses on this day, so plan to spend the day right here in Burlington.

HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Another great homes tour is being planned for this holiday season. Several of the area’s finest homes will open their doors and let you view their homes with all of their holiday finery. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Rec Center or Hoover’s Thriftway for $7, or may be purchased at any one of the homes for $10 the day of the tour. The Homes Tour is sponsored by Coffey County Council for the Arts, Burlington Promotions, and Burlington Recreation.
